Our entire society today is based on the production of energy. Therefore its production is of paramount importance. Today it is made by the burning of fossil fuels, nuclear fission, and with water and wind energy, primarily.

To generate electricity, in many cases we use energy to drive turbines which have magnets in them. As the magnets spin, they can induce current in a surrounding wire. These are a few ways that we make electricity:

Burning fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and petrol. They can be burned to boil water in large furnaces or along heating pipes, and the heated water vapor can be used to drive large turbines. The products of burning are generally very hazardous to the environment. These fuels are also not renewable because they took millions of years to be created in the first place, so we shouldn’t be depending on them for much longer - or they will run out.

By moving water: Dams have long been used to funnel water down tubes with turbines, which can be used to create electricity. Dams are also useful because they can control the movement of water and restrict bodies of water to where we want them. On the other hand, this may cause local ecosystem damage and environmental hazards.

About 90% of all the world’s renewable electricity is made in this way.

Wind energy. Wind generators use propeller wings that spin in the wind to turn a generator which induces electric current in electrical lines. Wind turbines are very environmentally sound and are becoming more and more economical each day.

Nuclear fission. Nuclear fission can be accomplished in large nuclear power plants in order to generate large amounts of heat energy. This process uses unstable matter such as a certain uranium isotope to create a nuclear reaction and boil water to turn turbines.

Solar energy. The energy of the sun’s rays can also be used to make electricity, without turning a turbine. Photons transfer their energy directly to electrons in solar panels to start the electrical circuit.

Whether you choose to buy a new or used vehicle it is sensible if you want to save yourself money to get a car warranty as well in case parts need replacing or the vehicle breaks down. Before you get a warranty for that new or used vehicle you buy there are number of things which need to be taken into consideration beforehand.

Below we offer a few tips to help you when it comes to finding the right car warranty for you.

1. When buying a used vehicle first check to make sure that the manufacturer’s original warranty is still valid as normally with vehicles less than three years old this is generally the case. However, if you are purchasing the vehicle from a dealer and the warranty has expired they may offer you a short term warranty for free or elsewhere enquire if it is possible to purchase an extended warranty instead.

2. Look at the owner’s manual as this will clearly set out what is covered in the vehicles general warranty. Normally the manufacturer provides a warranty which covers either 3 years or 36,000 miles. Normally you will see in the owner’s manual just what parts of the vehicle are covered by these warranties.

3. If you can find out whether they have extended warranties available sometimes known as power train warranties and which provide cover for either 60 months or 60,000 miles. But these may not be available until t he original warranty has expired.

4. It is important that if you are going to purchase an extended warranty for your vehicle whether new or used then do so through a reputable company. Look for those who offer not only a variety of warranty plans but have been providing them for some considerable time such as Wynn’s Auto Warranty, Carchex Auto Warranty or CNA Auto Warranty. Also arrange to read through all the terms and conditions of the plans before signing one. If you can go for those who not only cover the vehicle no matter where you are but also provide a money back guarantee if you are unsatisfied with it.

5. It is crucial that you read each of the car warranty plans you are considering through carefully before you sign on the dotted line. Look not just how long the warranty is in place for but also what time limits there are in place in which you can make a claim. Ideally you want a warranty that is going to protect your investment which is a considerable one.

Remember a car warranty won’t provide a guarantee in relation to how long the car will last, but is more to ensure that the vehicle is in good condition at time of purchase. Unfortunately if you choose to misuse use or mishandle your car then the claims you try to make are going to be invalid. So this is another reason why it is crucial that before signing on the dotted line you read through the car warranty documents fully.

Renewable energy is not that easy to define. The definition has to be all-encompassing as it is the general term for a whole range of unconventional energy sources. Most experts mean that renewable energy is something that occurs naturally and very widely.

Nuclear power is the origin for most renewable energy sources. This nuclear power is the one from the sun. In a huge nuclear reaction, the sun creates energy in form of light and heat which we can use in the form of natural energy. The sun is the number one source of solar power, wind power and biomass energy. Many call fossil fuels for biomass energy but it’s limited and have several calamitous side effects.

There is a great renewable energy program at The US federal National Renewable Energy Laboratory which researches the latest energy saving techniques. Scientists have finally understood that energy efficiency much more effective, and NREL educates people in this field.

They work together with the leading instances of the building industry, foreground endeavors to build using renewable energy and tell producers as well as consumers about what and how they can save money by using this form of energy. NREL also get together with agencies to set guideposts for buildings and other energy consuming gadgets.

The use of renewable energy is beneficial for the our sadly polluted world. Wind and solar energy are two main types of this energy. Bio fuels, geothermal energy and wave or tidal power are fast becoming more popular in areas where they can be applied.

What is the difference between renewable and alternative energy?

Many of us are not aware of the tenuous difference between the two. Renewable energy is basically natural; it is the energy we can use from the sun or wind or waves. Alternative energy, however, includes bio fuels and nuclear energy sources and some of them are not that healthy for us.

The infrastructure of today is made for the use of fossil fuels, even though renewable energy or green energy is way more cost effective. The government has taken very few steps to make any changes and go for renewable sources of energy in a larger scale. With the present situation getting worse day by day, there must be a change pretty soon.

One positive thing about fossil fuels is that we can store the energy we get from them, unlike renewable or green energy sources. Solar power, for instance, is useless in cloudy weather. Unless there is any wind, that source of energy cannot be made use of. This and the fact that initial costs to get energy from these unconventional sources are high, have lent it a definite drawback as compared to traditional sources of energy.

The Lake Las Vegas Resort is great golfing destination for a variety of reasons. I has a reflection bay that really captures the beauty of the course and also gives in that nice country club feel. This course was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, so you know it will present some great challenges and intricate landscaping.

The Falls Golf Course is another well known course that is included in the Lake Las Vegas Resort. You can expect only state of the art features because this course is so new. In fact it has some of the greatest elevations difference in Vegas and has a number of great waterfalls.

One in a different setting is The Siena Golf Club. This course is for the person that is not a professional because the course isnat as hard as others in the area. However it still provides great scenery and landscaping to produce a great round of golf. The highlight of this course it the ancient Italian theme.

Another great course is the Royal Links Golf Club which actually mimics some of the greatest holes on the British circuit. They are just about exact duplicates to the best holes and will provide you with the sense of British golf in your blood. A benefit on this course is that each hole will contain a description with the British history behind each.

If you are looking for a nice, cheap, and easy course then Desert Pines Golf Club is the place for you. There are many pines that cover the golf course but the play is easy and relaxing. You can get a tee time for as little as forty five dollars which makes this course one of the best discounted golf courses in Las Vegas.

The Dragon Ridge Country Club is another course with drastic elevation changes which will challenge even the best golfers. Also the water will reap havoc on all who attempt to gamble on this course. This will really test your skills and possibly give you a horrible experience unless you are truly qualified for the demand of skill.

The longest course in Nevada is The Wolf Course at Paiute Resort. This is extremely hard for golfers because the total length is up to about seven and half thousand yards. This is a power loveras golf course however finesse is still required if you want to be successful.

Bali Hai Golf Club is an exciting golf course that is themed to the south pacific. If you decide to visit here, you will find an island green, 3,000 palm trees, and 100,000 tropical plants for a truly exotic look. Every hole is a serious challenge. The most difficult in my opinion is number 11, a 190-yard hole named \”Lagoon.a Pools guard the green to the right and bunkers protect the front. Youall need a well placed shot to get this one on the green. Price $120-300

The evolution of the automobile has been amazing. From the early rickety models to modern computer controlled versions, things have changed a lot. That being said, friction and heat are still a threat to any car engine and have to be managed.

As any car owner well knows, lubricant is the best tool for fighting the ravages of friction and heat. This lubricant is, of course, better known as motor oil and it performs a vital function that keeps your car on the road.

Oil is an amazing substance. It can take an absolute thrashing in the harsh environment of an engine and yet still keep friction and heat at bay. After a bit, however, even oil will fail and thus must be changed out.

What answer immediately popped into your mind? I bet it was that the oil should be changed every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever came first. Right? Somewhere, an oil marketing executive has a big grin on their face.

The three month marketing slogan is simply not correct. It may never have been. Cars perform differently, which means the stress placed on the engine and oil will differ. Oils have also improved dramatically and now last longer.

The simple truth is there is no one standard mileage or time period that should be used for oil changes. A big Ford truck simple runs differently than a Honda Civic. The oil in the truck will need to be changed well before the oil in the Honda.

Still, we need some type of guideline right? Well, you have one. For men, this will be painful. Yes, we will have to read directions. In the owners manual for the car, we can find the information for the specific needs of our vehicle.

The manufacturer is actually going to designate a number of things regarding the oil. Yes, the number of miles between recommended changes will be there, but so will the weight of oil to be used and the recommended oil brand.

Now pay attention. The miles and brand of oil are important, but the information on the weight of oil to be used is absolutely critical. You can get the miles and brand wrong, but do not get the weight wrong under any circumstances.

If you can, try to go with synthetic oil for your car. They last much longer. A Mini Cooper, for instance, will go up to 17,000 miles between oil changes running on Castrol Synthetic. Not bad, eh?

A personal favorite of mine is Mobile 1. I’ve used this for years after a racing mechanic recommended it to me. I have to say I have experienced no engine problems since then and I drive a Jaguar! Pretty miraculous, eh?

Ultimately, you should follow the directions of your manufacturer on oil changes. They typically will be for 5,000 miles or more, which can save you a lot of money.

To be successful financially, you have to show some motivation and independent thinking. This includes the decisions you make regarding the type of vehicle you drive and some intelligent decisions you make regarding that choice. You can make a “wheel” difference to your net worth just by understanding how to make a cost effective choice regarding your means of transportation.

Your Purpose-Driven Car

Choosing a car does not have to take on the significance of a religious decision, but you should seriously consider why you think you need a car, if at all. If you cannot do without a car, it is sensible to be wise to the salespeople who will appeal to your desire for a status symbol. Choosing a car to look good will undoubtedly cost you in the long run.

Drive Vs. Alternative Arrive

According to the AAA’s study, “Your Driving Costs” (2006) it costs, on average, $8,000 a year to own a motor vehicle. The cost is higher for SUVs and minivans. It can be double that if you choose to update your luxury car every two to three years. These figures were calculated based on the car travelling 15,000 miles per year.

Think about it - do you really need a car so much that you are willing to spend such a hugh sum, when you can save thousands by car pooling or using public transport? This amount of savings would take into account the times you may need to call for a taxi or rent a car in absolute emergencies. If you are able to, it is also a great cost saving, as a new family previously on two incomes, to cut back to one car and therefore live on one income.

Why do cars costs so much? After all, there are all those ads that claim it only costs $299 per month! What they don’t tell you about are the high deposits required, or the sales tax, or the fact that the loan is over such a long period of time that what you are left with when you have finally paid the last instalment is a car that is not worth much at all because of depreciation. They also don’t mention the cost of fuel, maintenance, or insurance that has to be added to the cost of owning a car.

New Vs. Used:

It is mostly the case that a fancy new car with all the extras will cost you more than a late model used car. The new car will depreciate at a very fast rate. The used car has already gone through the worst of its depreciation and it will cost you around one third of the price of a new car. There is also the problem that a completely new model of car could have some unforeseen problems; it does not have any reliability records, so you don’t know what you are buying, nor do you know the potential repair costs.

One positive about purchasing a new car is the extended warranty period, which may balance out the cost of a new car against that of a used car, when you don’t know its service history.

Insurance

The most attractive cars attract the highest insurance premiums due to their desirability amongst thieves and they often cost more to repair. One example is that the humble Honda Accord that has an insurance premium around 20% less than the more desirable Acura.

SUVs usually cost more to insure as well because their repair costs are higher. It is usually the case that a late model used car will cost 10% less to insure than the same car when new.

Use, Convenience and Safety

For a number of people in high-powered positions, such as consultants or entrepreneurs who need to transport clients, their car can be seen as an extension of their “image”. Paying extra for the appearance and the added features of such a car may be considered a worthy investment. In some cases, a SUV may be justified, especially if you are required to transport clients and their luggage around.

When choosing a SUV, keep in mind that, whilst some of the “crossover” models have improved, more “car-like” handling, many still have problems with fuel efficiency and can be more prone to rolling or other accidents related to the handling of the vehicle than a standard passenger vehicle.

Should You Lease, Loan, or Fully Own?

It is a sad fact of life that, unless you are looking to purchase a true classic vehicle, your investment will depreciate. There are ways to keep the depreciation as low as possible and ways to keep the operating costs at their lowest:

Loser Leasing

At first appearance, leasing a car gives you a new asset in return for monthly payments that appear reasonable. In fact, leasing is in fact a loan on the biggest depreciating portion of the car’s life, that is, the first few years. The cycle repeats itself as you replace the old car with a new model, so you never see the benefits of reduced operating costs associated with an older vehicle.

Leasing can also be an expensive trap. Because lease contracts are far from simple, you may think that you have struck a good deal, when in fact you are paying hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars over the term of the lease that you should not have had to.

Swimming with the Loan Shark

You may find yourself in financial difficulties if you miss a payment and have to resort to extending the loan on a vehicle that is now worth less than the amount of the loan that you still owe. You may also find that the “great deal” you made with the dealer’s finance will cause you grief should you have to sell the vehicle in an attempt to repair your finances. It is better to arrange a loan with a reputable bank or credit union.

Cash In and Out on Ownership

Patience and cunning are the keys here. Researching a particular vehicle’s market value, finding the best dealers and having your possible purchase checked over mechanically before you pay cash for a fuel efficient late model used vehicle is a wise move financially. Why? Because the “middle years” of the life of a car are the least expensive when it comes to maintenance.

Paying cash for your vehicle also avoids the burden of monthly payments, which you can then put aside for the maintenance of the vehicle as well as saving some cash towards the purchase of your next (late model) car in the near future.

It is the case, though, that there are people who either don’t have the time or persistence or the ability to negotiate a deal to be able to make a successful cash transaction. The option for these people is to buy a late model vehicle that is high in quality but is not in the luxury category and simply running it until it “dies”. Yes, the maintenance costs will be higher as the car ages, but there will be no real value in the car to depreciate and as such the annual running costs will be less for the ensuing years when you can keep it going until you can buy another late model or new car.

If it is necessary for you to purchase a new car, make sure that it is as reliable and as fuel efficient as possible.

By the Light of a Silvery Moon Roof

If a new car is your option and you are going to sell it on before the maintenance costs become too high, you should ensure that you maximise the marketability of the vehicle and keep the depreciation as low as possible. Some cars depreciate very quickly, so choose carefully.

There are some “extras” that will help the vehicle maintain its value, including sun/moon roofs and better seating. Safety features such as airbags don’t, but they should be a consideration purely for their safety aspects and they will be a plus with the insurance companies and when you are ready to sell the vehicle on, they will increase the chances of someone buying the vehicle.

Drive Down Your Car Costs

There is good news and bad news. The good news is that with the advancement of safety features in vehicles, insurance costs have become lower. The bad news is that poor drivers will see their insurance premiums skyrocket - only the good drivers will see the benefits of lower premiums.

It is obvious, then, that you will save a great deal of money when you have worked out these skills:

When you are in the process of negotiating a new lease or purchase, don’t fall prey to the what is listed in “special extras” of many car companies, for example, extended warranty periods. You might be paying more on what are not necessary. Paying for extras might affect your credit report rating.

Do your homework regarding the reasonable price of a good used car, so you know where you stand, whether you are buying from a dealer or privately.

Find the best mechanics that will give you the best deal.

Go for a more fuel efficient vehicle and one that is reliable, but be wary of the hybrid claims as they are often much more expensive to purchase initially and their repair costs are higher.

Make sure that your insurance cover meets all of your needs.

Most of the energy that runs our society today comes from fossil fuels. They are not in unlimited supply, however, and we should start now to find alternative sources of energy to prepare for what is to come.

Clean energy sources such as wind, solar and hydroelectric are becoming more and more popular and as their technology is improved they are also becoming cheaper and cheaper. The ultimate goal is to make them cheaper than fossil fuels so that we can wean ourselves off of fossil fuels.

Other types of renewable energy are also being developed, and many of them seem very promising. One of these energies is wave energy, which is garnering much excitement for powering cities in coastal regions.

The energy in waves is very dense, so energy can be taken out of them with a relatively small power plant. Wave energy also doesn’t break like sun energy or wind energy may.

A country which is famous for its surfing, Australia, already has many of these generators powering its homes.

A wave power plant exists off the coast of a city just south of Sydney, about 100 yards off the coast. It produces enough energy to power 500 homes and desalinates enough water to supply those homes with fresh drinking water, as well. It weighs about 500 tons.

It is very well built so that it can survive most major storms. It makes about 500kW of energy and it was $4.7M to build.

Though it is still on the expensive side, as technology develops many believe that it has the best chance of any of the renewable energies out there to become much cheaper than fossil fuels.

Solar power for homes has come a long way since the boxy design of the solar panels most of us are familiar with. Tremendous advancements have been made in solar cell construction that allow many building materials to be manufactured with the solar cells incorporated into their design effectively turning them into virtually undetectable solar panels.

There are two ways that solar power for homes is supplied. A stand alone solar power system acts as the sole source of electricity for your home. Alternatively, supplemental solar power systems, can supply all of your homes energy depending on sunlight availability. When sunlight is not available, your home can use energy from the power grid.

The basic components to generate solar power for homes are the same whether you opt for a standalone system or a supplemental system. First you have the photovoltaic panels, commonly known as PV or solar panels, these panels are lined with a semi conductor or solar cell that turns the rays of the sun into electricity. This electricity is then routed into a regulator/controller that keeps the current at the voltage/amperage level your system is designed for. The electricity is then routed either into your homes electrical system or into a battery array or storage system that will keep that solar power available when the sun goes down.

As long as your house is hooked up to the power company’s grid, you won’t need to set up a separate storage system. However, setting up your own storage is more advantageous as your monthly utility bill be reduced further and you’ll still have power even during an outage.

It is now cheaper and simpler than ever before to reduce or eliminate your need for outside electricity by using solar power for homes. Several types of building materials include awnings, roofing materials, car port roofing, and edges of window panes. This kind of solar panel is known as Building Integrated Photovoltaics. If used for roofing material, such panels provide the same measure of home protection as do asphalt shingles, even while they function as a solar panel.

One of the largest setbacks to adding or converting your home to solar power has always been the initial cost, there are however a growing number of ways to combat that cost. There are grants available on both the state and federal level to help offset a large portion of using solar power for homes. While the federal rebate may change from year to year, individual state rebates vary from state to state, with some states offering special low interest financing as an added green incentive to rebates.

Aside from reducing your homes environmental impact, perhaps one of the greenest returns you will see will be in your utility bill which you can reduce or eliminate through the use of solar power for homes. Most utility companies even have a metering program that enables you to sell the excess power generated by your solar power system to the utility company, now hows that for green!
